Research and advice
Diagnosing the problem, travel choices and road safety. I work with questionnaires, in-depth interviews and the data that already exists, and develop solutions together with the people involved.
With Wendix →Dr Chris Dijksterhuis
I'm a behavioural scientist (PhD) and co-founder of Wendix. For more than eighteen years I have researched road safety, travel behaviour and sustainable mobility: first in universities, and since 2019 for government and business as well. With a colleague, I'm also building DAM, a mapping application that brings mobility data together in one place.
Adviser on data and mobility behaviour, for municipalities, provincial authorities and businesses
DAM, Data Assistant Mobility: from an idea to a product in everyday use
Co-supervisor of a PhD on shared mobility in rural areas
Numbers on their own change nothing. I find out why people travel the way they do, combine that with the information already out there, and present it so clearly that a policymaker can act on it straight away.

With Wendix →Exploring and combining sources, Power BI dashboards, and my own mapping and analysis software, so that an analysis gets used rather than left in a report.
About DAM ↓Building consortia of public bodies, research institutions and SMEs, writing grant applications and leading projects. Co-supervisor of a PhD at Hanze University of Applied Sciences since 2025.
Publications ↓A web application where users combine open data with their own sources, then make selections and run statistics on them.

Participatory methods and co-creation with municipalities, residents and businesses.
Projects worth up to €600,000 in staff time, with a steering group, an advisory group and teams of up to eleven people.
A logistics dashboard that shows where goods come from and where they go, and research into how well the European regional classification (NUTS) works for that purpose. Presented at the closing conference of InnoWaTr in Harlingen, an Interreg North Sea project with 24 European partners.
A model that estimates the distance travelled, the CO₂ emissions and the electricity demand of every registered vehicle, down to postcode level. It shows policymakers where a cleaner fleet would make the biggest difference.
In-depth interviews within a company about time pressure, phone use at the wheel and fatigue. The aim was to understand not only what happened but why it could happen, and what the organisation itself can change.
Project leader of a consortium of ten partners from academia, municipalities and SMEs. Together with rural municipalities, we designed a digital tool for decisions on shared mobility, cycling and tourism.
Work package leader in two projects that use camera footage to analyse the safety of cyclists and of electric cargo bikes, and that make this analysis available to traffic engineers.
